Key terms that need to be understood to begin the understanding of Instructional Design, and its many methods in compasses.
adaptive learning
the delivery of customized and personalized learning experience that address the unique needs of an individual
ADDIE model
noun
Is an acronym for an illustration of the conceptual components of many instructional design/development models. Stands for analyze, design, develop, implement and evaluate.
affective knowledge
aspects of knowledge or knowing which seem to organically bring particular emotions.
Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach
an approach to sustainable community-driven development
behaviorism
the theory that behavior can be explained thru conditioning, without appeal to thought or emotions.
behavioristic
the study of observable and quantifiable concepts of behavior
cognitive abilites
the mental capability that involves reasoning, problem-solving, abstract thinking, complex idea comprehension, and learning from experiences.
constructivism
theory that learners construct knowledge rather than take in information
Dick and Carey's systems approach model
Model designed in 2015 to emphasize the importance of examining and refining the instruction and provides guidance for making improvements.
educational psychology
the study of how people learn, teaching models, process,es and the individual differences in learning
executive abilites
the brain based, cognitive processes that help regulate behavior, make decisions and set and achieve goals
general systems theory
a conceptual framework that focuses on the wholeness, patterns, relationships, order, integration and organization
goal analysis
involves the examination of the steps that were taken by an expert when performing the actions stated in the goal.
Instructional Design
The systematic development of instructional specifications using learning and instructional theory to ensure the quality of instruction. As a process, it is the complete process of the analysis of the learning needs and goals and the development of the delivery system to meet those needs and goals. As a discipline, it is its own branch of knowledge concerning the research and theory behind instructional strategies and the process for developing and implementing those strategies. As a science, its the art of creating detailed specifications for the development, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of the situation that facilitate the learning of both large and small units of the subject matter at all levels of complexity.
Kemp, Morrison, and Ross's Instructional Design Plan
This plan is composed of 9 elements; identify instructional problems and specify goals for instruction, examine learner characteristics that will influence decisions, identify subject content and analyze task components related to goals and purposes, specify the objectives, sequence content within each unit for logical learning, design instructional strategies so the learner can master objective, plan the message and develop instructions, develop evaluation instrument to assess objectives, select resources to support instruction and learning activities.
learner-centered enviornments
enviorments that pay careful attention and detail to the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and beliefs that learning bring into an educational setting
Learning Management Software
software application that can handle multiple accepts of administration documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of educational concepts
learning styles
the way that students learn
Merrill's Pebble-in-the-Pond Model
Model created in 2013 that is composed of 6 steps, design a problem, design a progression of problems, design instruction for component skills, design instructional strategy enhancements, finalize the design, and design assessment and evaluation.
positivistic
in a world where any problem has only one correct answer
postmodernism
is concurrently a historical epoch, an intellectual movement, and a general social condition.
rapid prototyping
a different approach to the design and development of instruction
scenario based learning
interactive scenarios to support active learning stratgeies that are focused on problem based or case based learning
Successive Approximation Model (SAM)
SAM follows the sesstial pattern of design models, evualate, design, devleop; however it places great stress or focus on the interactive nature of each step.
